Electrical Apprentice

APPRENTICE JOB DESCRIPTION

• An Electrician Apprentice shall assist electricians to safely install electrical equipment and systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, current electrical and building codes, and adhere to industry standards.
• Understand and always follow company and job site safety policies and procedures.
• Learn to safely use hand and power tools, ladders, and construction equipment.
• Learn to confidently read and interrupt blueprints of electrical layouts and building plans.
• Install and mount electrical controls, devices, panels, sensors, and components.
• Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using multimeters and testing devices.
• Assist in diagnosing malfunctioning systems, apparatuses, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
• Must have reliable transportation to the office or job site each day.
• Must be willing to submit to pre-employment, random, and post-accident drug tests.
• Must be willing to submit to background checks for government contracts.
• Must be able to work for long periods (hours) without texting or being on personal cell phone
• Work continuously at smoke-free facilities such as hospitals and government facilities

JOB SITES AND TRANSPORTATION

• Bay Electric Co. services the entire Hampton Roads area, some of Central Virginia (Richmond area) and sometimes has projects in Northern Virginia, where company paid overnight stays maybe required.
• Every apprentice is responsible for their own transportation to and from the Bay Electric Co. office or job site each day. Carpooling with other employees is sometimes an option.

EDUCATION

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Strong math skills are required (Geometry, Algebra 1 and/or Algebra II)

SOFT SKILLS

• Must have initiative to think ahead to plan workdays in advance
• Arrive to work on-time, daily
• Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic helping others
• Ability to multitask and stay organized different work environments
• Interact positively with customers and the general public

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to lift to 60-lbs. independently
• Apprentice and electrician daily duties include physical labor such digging, carrying/moving materials on job sites, cleaning up job site debris, climbing ladders, installing conduit, pulling wires in conduit, installing lights, installing wiring devices (receptacles & light switches), crawling in attic & under houses, rigging, climbing stairs, etc.
