Sr. Cloud Engineer position is within the Developer Productivity & Experience team. This role is responsible for enabling the enterprise to adopt Development & DevSecOps practices through the building, administration, support of modern development tools and enablement of Delta's cloud journey. This role is critical to the availability and resilience of the developer happiness and productivity. This team member will also participate in leading and facilitating educational sessions on the use of DevSecOps tools and Cloud Native best practices. This position could be in Minneapolis, MN or Atlanta, GA.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

The Senior Cloud Engineer position preferably with 10 years of software and development experience with a minimum of 5+ years hands-on experience working with Cloud and/or DevSecOps related technologies. Candidate must be solutions oriented, using rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions, probing all sources for answers. Candidate must be able to deliver clean and reliable code, API design, be comfortable with refactoring, test driven development, design patterns, abstractions, writing documentation, and the complete software development life cycle. Candidate must have excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management. Additionally, candidate must be a self-learner with the ability to pick up new technologies and think outside the box to propose new solutions to seemingly impossible problems.

  • Requires an BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field of study

  • Candidate must have strong technical fluency; comfort understanding and discussing architectural concepts with management, architects, developers, and systems & applications engineering teams.
  • Leads requirements gathering meetings and reviews designs with the business.

  • Consistently makes safety and security, of self and others, the priority
  • Ensure that the Delta methodology, standards, and procedures are adopted and implemented.
  • Deep understanding of Linux systems and strong core Unix skills are required. Should have experience with Unix shell scripting.
  • Good working knowledge of build automation and continuous integration/delivery ecosystem: Git, Groovy, Kotlin, Gerrit, Maven/Gradle, Docker, Nexus, Artifactory, Selenium, Python.
  • Comfortable with facilitating training on enterprise tools and best practices
  • Utilize programming languages like JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, and Go, Open-Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of AWS tools and services
  • Experience in working with 12-factor methodology and understanding its benefits, and able to demonstrate appropriate patterns to other team members
  • Must have experience with Build Tools, CI/CD, DevOps and Agile principals
  • May implement process to reduce barriers and roadblocks in projects, services, and processes to operate more efficiently.
  • Owns the change request process and coordinates with other teams as necessary.
  • Develops and owns list of final enhancements. Develops and defines application scope and objectives and supervises the preparation of technical and/or functional specifications from with programs will be written.
  • Performs technical design reviews and code reviews.
  • Ensures unit test is completed and meets the test plan requirements, system testing is completed, and system is implemented according to plan.
  • Owns the technical development environment and works on the Enterprise team.
  • Leads multiple or large projects and facilitates large group JAD sessions for requirements, modeling in several disciplines.
  • Leads vendor evaluation and analysis.
  • Curiosity to understand how things work and how they can be improved.
  • May implement improvements in stability, performance, and scalability
  • Experience in an Agile environment on a Product team.

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

BS/MS degree, preferably in a technical or scientific field. 7 years of software and development experience with a minimum and 5+ years of hands-on experience working with DevSecOps Technologies. Ability to work in a fast-paced technology environment, interacting with product owners, business analysts, software engineers/developers and testers.

  • Knowledge and experience with the Travel Industry
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, DevOps, or Developer certification
  • Should be well versed with the AWS well architected framework or TOGAF and able to apply those principles while designing a solution
  • Experience in optimizing the cost for service being utilized in cloud
  • Experience with open-source frameworks
  • Experience building and supporting applications in the Cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience supporting production environments
  • Drives decision-making that favors compromise and alignment over consensus-building
  • Working knowledge of:
  • Configuration management tools such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible etc.
  • Federated Security, Identity, SAML, Single Sign On, IAM etc.
  • Networking and Load Balancers, Firewalls, VPCs, VPNs, DNS OSI Layers c.
  • Infrastructure and Application logging and monitoring technologies (New Relic, Splunk, etc.
